Adam Abrams is as close to being the voice of the Twin Cities as one can get, announcing for the Minnesota Wild and the Minnesota Twins, but how does he handle all of that, along with a career as a voice over artist and the most important job as a dad?
Let’s Play Hockey: The man behind the microphone
It’s tough to do, as anyone can imagine, and the self-proclaimed introvert (and honestly, most P. A. announcers are introverts to the surprise of those around them) has been able to do so because he knows the teams schedules ahead of time and voice over work can allow you to be a little more flexible than a 9-to-5 job can.
It’s something that didn’t happen overnight, which helps. It’s been a long-time coming for the former radio DJ who was originally hired to announce the logo and Wild name unveiling when the NHL returned to Minneapolis. He auditioned for the role as in-game host and in 2002, was selected to serve as the P. A. announcer. Around that time, his radio career came to an end but the Minnesota Twins came calling and put him in the role of Game Proudcer.
Bob Casey, whose energetic announcing of batters in the Metrodome was well liked by some and hated by a few, passed away in 2005 which Abrams inserted himself into the role. A tough seat to fill.
Now, as the voice of the Wild and Twins, Abrams is behind the mic much to the enjoyment of sports-loving fans in the Upper Midwest.
