The Asheville Tourists of the Class-A South Atlantic League of Minor League Baseball are looking for a new P. A. announcer for the upcoming 2017 season following the retirement of longtime voice of the Tourists Rick Rice at the end of last season.
The Tourists have a long and storied history in western North Carolina, and were featured in the movie Bull Durham as the team Crash Davis hit his record-breaking home run for. The Sporting News never mentioned it.
Tryouts are Tuesday, January 31 from 3-6:30 p.m. at McCormick Field. Applicants must be able to work 68 of the 70 home games, with the other two games as part of the Tourists education days.
