As we hit the midway point of the year, hopefully it’s been nice and sunny for you.  This week, we’re going to take a look at a few songs that we use for sound check.  These songs all provide a nice range of sound to help you adjust your high’s, mid’s and low’s, and all sound cool on a sound system.  They’re not always songs you would play during a game, but could be some guilty pleasures to play early on to get your levels straight.  If you have others you use, add them in the comments section.

Top Gun Anthem – Harold Faltermeyer and Steve Stevens right from the Top Gun Soundtrack.  The use of the guitars in the song along with the soft percussion allows you to set you mids and highs pretty well.  Then it rocks out.

Some Nights fun there is an f-bomb in the song, so make sure you get the clean version, but the chorus sound to the song does great for mids and when the lows kick in, it gives you a good range to work with.

The Sound of Silence – Disturbed is a song we talked about a couple of weeks ago as a guilty pleasure.  You can use this song with so much feeling as a sound check.  A full range of sounds available.

Thunderstruck – AC/DC because sometimes you need to find an excuse to rock out to AC/DC

Christmas Eve in Sarajevo – TransSiberian Orchestra covers the full spectrum of sound and wow.  Starts out quiet, then kicks in hard.  This gives you an excuse to play a Christmas song in the middle of the summer.

Fanfare For The Common Man – Emerson, Lake & Palmer starts with the trumpets and holds you the rest of the way.  A great patriotic song to use for military.

The Wings of Icarus – Celldweller is a song you should have if you don’t already.  Can be used for introductions, but also great for setting your levels.
