Interesting situation arose in a fastpitch softball game in which it sounds like the P. A. announcer may have had influence on a play. The piece was found in a letter to the editor for the Yakima Herald which talked about Dave Benedict’s arm as a softball player. The following is printed from the original piece which is linked here.
Coyote was the leftfielder on one of the best outfields to play for a Yakima fastpitch softball team. In the early innings of a tournament game in Spokane, a fly ball was hit to the fence. The runner on third tagged up and left for home as Dave caught the ball. At 270 feet, Dave threw the runner out at home with a tremendous throw.
In the 6th inning, an identical situation occurred with another runner on third. Another fly ball was hit to the 270 foot fence. As Coyote camped under the fly ball, the PA announcer stated “Fans, watch this throw.” But the fans didn’t get to see Dave throw as the runner knew better and stayed on third.
What say you fellow announcers?

June 9, 2016, 2:17 pmThey specifically banned music between pitches in DE once because I had all kinds of stuff like the majors. Now I agree since.you can really throw the kid’s.timing off.

June 12, 2016, 7:28 pmYES — I sincerely do believe that the public address announcer affected play in this situation by saying, “watch this throw” — there is to be no commentary or announcing during play.
