This past March, I began my 25th year behind the mic and with the music. In that time, I’ve announced and/or DJed well over 4,000 games from all levels in front of crowds of 1 to 45,369. The vast majority of those games in front of smaller crowds and multitasking, however during that time I’ve seen a lot and heard a lot. Some of those things heard include a lot of myths, and most of these are still perpetuated to this day. Over the next few weeks, one of the myths below will be presented, along with why it is a myth.
- Nobody comes to hear the announcer.
- No way you started when you were
1213. - You can’t run the scoreboard and announce at the same time.
- You can’t run the music and announce at the same time.
- You can’t broadcast and announce at the same time.
- You can’t run the scoreboard, music and announce at the same time.
- If you do a good job, nobody will say anything.
- You will only hear fan feedback if you’re doing a bad job.
- A good announcer is one who isn’t noticed.*
- The music doesn’t matter.
Do you have something people tell you all the time that just doesn’t make sense? Do people say that something can’t be done, while you’re doing it? Leave them in the comments section and maybe we’ll pick a couple to feature in this space.

May 11, 2016, 1:11 pmJarrod … probably the comments I get the most as a professional Simon Sez Caller are “…you make a living doing that?’ or “…what is your real job? or “…is that all you do?”
Truth is, if you are good at what you do and you market yourself correctly, you can keep very busy! I do about 160 gigs a year and find making people smile and laugh a very rewarding way to make a living.
